This is the second collaboration project with my 3D animation friend. I did the sound design for her.
The idea of her story is about the visual representation of searching and discovering without a clear goal and the sensation of loss and loneliness during such a process.
It is about a boy on his journey to search and follow along an unknown direction, which only depends on a compass in his hand.

This project is a series of soundtracks that referenced my friend’s animation setting. I added my own understanding of the characters and created my own script, which in turn, informed the composition for the soundtracks. The story is about a boy and his psychological world as a person with a dissociative identity disorder. He has four personality states: The first was him before disfigurement who had been proud which appeared on the poster; the second one is him with low self-esteem and confusion; the third is a girl who loved him, and the fourth is the host vessel who is self-deceiving. The boy is afflicted with self-loathing because of his appearance and lives in a fictional world through these personalities. His face is wrapped in gauze because of his father’s domestic violence. The story is inspired by the TV series “Criminal Minds Season 4’’, in episode 20 which depicts a murderer who has a split personality of his mother because of domestic violence.

ARTWORK #3 SUSHI MAGIC

Stop Motion Video

I was inspired by a YouTuber Meng’s Stop Motion how she uses paper-craft props and adding magic elements into her storytelling. This project is a stop motion video about how I create sushi using close-up magic. The story is I use magic and call out a Sushi shop but it refuses to give me sushi so I have to use magic and make sushi myself. I like Japanese food very much especially Sushi, and my previous works are related to that, so I want to make a more magical food-related one. Every item I use is made of paper. I use stop motion studio to shoot each frame. After that, I edit the footage and add sounds to it.

I use Adobe Premiere and Audition to edit the footage and the sound. As a sound major student, I pay more attention to the logic of sound. For example in the middle of the film, I originally used the scene that the monster directly crashed into the door, but later I thought carefully, the monster should have smashed the glass door outside first and then started to bump the wooden door. So I changed it to the clip of the character heard the glass door crack and realize the monster is bumping the wooden door. Also in the scene before shooting, I add the wooden door breaking, for we can see flashlight shine the whole room which means the door was destroyed by the monster and he break-in, that’s why they start shooting him.

This is the first collaboration project with my 3D animation friend. Unfortunately because of COVID-19, her project stopped early and she only creates a demo of that. So I did the sound design for this demo. It is showing the scene where the two characters have a fight in order to get the spring.

Based on the storyline of my friend’s 3D animation project, I use the characters and the setting of creating a whole new story. The first track Clockwork City is about where the story took place. The second Girl With Gun and the third Old Man And Mystery are the background story of the two characters. And the last two Fight For Power and Irony Of Victory are about what had happened in the story.

I use Adobe Audition to edit soundtracks. I use GarageBand to create the BGM for it last semester and for this semester I add more detailed sound to it. For example, the sound of the background factory track I put the factory room tone, the sound of the fans turning, the steam and the lever spinning.

Stop Motion Practise Video

This project is using Japanese Shokugan and paper models creating a video of making ramen and dumpling in a cooking game way.
I use stop motion studio to shoot each frame. After that, I edit the footage with special effects of game and add sounds to it.
