Artist Statement:
As an artist I like to use my work to challenge viewer’s perspectives by using my platform to discuss topics that are usually not represented in the media and need to be discussed. I work mainly in photography as that is my medium of choice. I have been exploring my relationship to how my body functions in a world where it is sexualized and objectified on a daily basis as well as exploring themes of self portraiture and performance. Using my body to explore it as a sculpture and a form to create shapes lets me take a step back and view my body as an art piece which allows me to appreciate my body. Body image and exploring the female nude body is a way for me to acknowledge the male gaze by taking back ownership of my body along with embracing my femininity. Exploring new ways to empower viewers about situations that so many people go through is important to me and helps shine a light on these issues and showcase and help others see that they are not alone.

This series was an exploration of my body and a way for me to play with my bodily form to create sculptures. This work was created for a studio class and I was very aware of lighting for this series and that was as much a factor as my body was. I wanted the shadows and light to play with my body along with having the lighting not take away from the rich forms my body created. When I first started creating this series I was just playing with shapes centred around how my body naturally is and went with where the camera took me, which was creating a performance of movement to allow my body to become sculpture objects.
